What about that weather and turnout for the fun fly! This had to be one of the best turnouts we have had for many years. I hope you enjoyed the BBQ ribs and chicken! I have to thank two people for their help, Steve Brownlee for his help in procurement and preparation and David Miles for help with procurement and the cooking! Grill was hot, and David and I were all ready and done cooking one hour early!! Our next big event will be our fund raiser for the WINSHAPE HOMES in October, keep that one in mind!
Good luck in advance to Mike McGowan as he heads off to the NATs for competition with the best in the U.S. Till next month!
Your Prez!
President, Tommy Vinci brought the meeting to order at 7:35pm with 30 members, 4 member applicants and 2 guests in attendance.
Officer Reports:
Treasurer, Dave Zeigler went over the clubs finance report for June 2001. The club had $485.00 in receipts from membership dues and $732.82 in expenses from BFI, Fun Fly expenses, Contest expenses and new keys. He also reported about the Kids Summer Free Flight Contest. He thanked Tom Huckaby for calculating the final scores. This years event had 23 entrants and had some memorable flights including 3 fly aways. There was some talk of having next years event later in the day to include a cookout for entrants and families. Dave also congratulated club member, Mike Brennison for taking 2nd place in the AMA Indoor Nationals this year.
Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger said that the club would top 160 members with new members joining at this meeting.
Vice President, Tom Huckaby, said that BFI (Porta Potty) had not been servicing it weekly, as they should. If anyone notices that it needs service, call Tom and hell call BFI.
Old Business:
Last months suggestion to roll the runway will take place. Just a matter of time.
New Business:
Tom Huckaby made a proposal to update the wording in the Club Bylaws pertaining to Guests. The changes are as follows:
"Where as our bylaws as presently written do not adequately address the position of a Host with respect to an invited guest flyer I wish to offer the following as clarification. I propose that the last sentence of part III Visiting flyers to the club may visit four (4) times before being required to Join. Any exception will be made at the discretion of the Executive Council. Be replaced with the following: An invited flyer may fly up to four (4) times as the Guest of a Fayette Flyers Club Member. Any exception will be made at the discretion of the Executive Council. After four (4) visits the guest must present himself or herself at a regular club meeting as a candidate for club membership or make other arrangements for future flying. The Host member must be present with his guest at all visits. The Host shall confirm current AMA membership by reviewing the guests AMA card or other PROOF of AMA coverage prior to the first flight. The Host will be further responsible to inform the guest of the frequency control system, the club rules as posted on the shed and the "No Fly" zones. Hosts should inform their guest of any safety rules violations during the flying session."
The proposal was seconded and approved to be brought up for a vote at next months meeting.
New Members:
This month the club had 4 new members join our ranks. Please welcome Art Sparks, Jimmy Milam, Tom Cross and John Benario.
Broken Prop Award:
This months award went to Bill Lechner for his Twinstar crash on final.[ Close but no cigar!]
