Meeting Minutes for June 26, 2003 by Ernie Schlumberger

President, Tommy Vinci started the meeting at 7:35p.m. with 23 members in attendance at the new field.

Officer Reports:

New Member/Training Officer, David Keller had no report this month. The Secretary, Ernie Schlumberger and Vice President, Paul DeWaard did not have anything to report either.

Treasurer, Dave Zeigler went over the Financial Report for the month of June. The Club had  income from the SEFF Event and  Expenses from the SEFF Event, Porta-Potty and Miscellaneous Expenses (Misc. Expenses included Advertising for a field, Gate and Lock and Keys). [Dollar amounts removed for security]

Dave informed the members that the Porta-Potty Company has added $4.00/month for insurance to cover the Porta-Potty and it can be cancelled. After a short discussion, it was decided to cancel the insurance.

SEFF Coordinator, Jeff Meyers gave a report on the Event of June 20, 21 and 22. We had 185 registered Pilots, 26 Vendors and approximately 800-1000 spectators for the weekend. Jeff commended Matt Klos, Dave Mason and Dave McConnell for a Great Job taking care of the Grounds Maintenance and for being the First ones there and the Last ones to leave the field after the Event. Jeff estimated there was income after all expenses were accounted for. (SEFF dollar amounts removed for security)

CUB Fun Fly Event Coordinator, Tom Huckaby talked about our upcoming event on July 18th and 19th at the Griffin Field. There will be a Raffle with about $200 worth of Prizes. The event is for ANY CUB, ANY SIZE, ANY COLOR and ANY POWER (yes event Electric!)

Old Business:

David Keller brought the Proposed Changes to the Field Rules. The only changes recommended were to change references to "the Golf Course" to Read "The Interstate". No objections were made. The Proposal was made into a formal motion, seconded and voted on and passed.

New Business:

Tommy Vinci talked about the progress of our Runway, which he said 2 sections of drainage pipes were laid in and several truckloads of fill dirt had been delivered and tilled into the ground. Tommy asked for permission to spend $1250.00 to have the Runway "Rock Hounded" and to Hydroseed the runway. Everyone present agreed to go ahead with the project. [This has been completed]

[GIVE IT SOME TIME TO GROW!]

ALL CUB Day

The 2nd Annual All Cub Fun Fly was held July 18-19, '03 at The Flying Griffins field  near Williamson, Ga. Allow me to say right up front that The Griffin Flyers were gracious hosts and I appreciate very much their allowing us to use their facilities for those two days.

Thank you Flying Griffins!!!

There were 26 registered pilots who brought about 30 CUBS.  Of the CUBS  (5) were 1/3 scale (144"), (5) were 1/4 scale (108") and the balance were of shorter wing spans down to the smallest which was 48" in span.

Five of the CUBS were electric powered (up from one last year) five were 2-stroke nitro engines, five were 2-stroke gas and the rest were 4-stroke nitro.

The pilots came from Ala. (4) one from MS. (13) from the Greater Atlanta area and all the others from the rest or Georgia.

There were (8) Fayette Flyers members who flew and our own (wouldn't you know it) Paul Dewaard won The  Plaque and an ARF CUB  donated by The Hobby Stop for The Most Unusual Cub. I tagged his .25 sized speed demon the HYPER (not Piper) Cub. The awarded Cub was exactly like the one with which he won the event. From the way Paul flies it, it might be a good idea to have a spare!

Russell Horsley of Marietta, Ga. won the CUB ARF donated by Maxx Products and The Most Realistic Flight Plaque.

The Best of The Show awards went to Keith Goff of McDonough, Ga. for a 1/4 scale, highly detained ,Military version Cub. It was built from a Balsa USA kit. His prize was 1/4 scale CUB kit Donated by Balsa USA. He also was awarded The Best of the Show Plaque.

Many of the pilots said they" had had a good time and to let them know when next year's event would be held." We had a couple "unscheduled landings" which appeared to me to be repairable.

We also had some great flying from pilots like Mr. "Slick" Larsen, Mr. D.C. May, Ken Hardin and  many others. I appreciate very much the hard work of our own membership to make "The Cub Event" run smoothly. I will be thanking all these hard working folks later. I would like to thank Bill Tinsley,1-1 scale "Cub Driver" for showing us, on both days, how the real thing flies. Thank you, Bill. We took in some money and I think the expenses will end up a little overage. So we made a little on the event. Thanks to all who attended ,flew and helped out . [dollar values removed by the club for security]
