VP’s Corner by Ernie Schlumberger
Just got back from SEFF 2004 and wanted to share some of it with the rest of the Fayette Flyers. SEFF far exceeded our expectations and our plans. We had 279 registered pilots and about 1800-2000 spectators over the 4 day weekend event. First thing I’d like to do is thank everyone that helped out and supported SEFF. The following Fayette Flyers put a lot of hard work and sweat (94-96 degree heat and swarming gnats) into making the event a success. Mike Downey, Paul DeWard, David Keller and his dad (Howard Keller), Mike DeBoer, Ric Vaughn, Jake Veilleux, Matt Kloss, Dave Mason, David McConnell, Steve Dukes, Jim Beck, Phil Meyers and Jeff Meyers worked long hours in brutal conditions during the event. Also, the Fayette Flyers owe a big debt of gratitude to the following people that helped out tremendously and we could not have done it without them. Bernie Ortman, Andy Willetts, David Hogue, Steve Poretz, Jenny Meyers, Mary Beck, Rebecca Vaughn, Debbie and Gay Dillon, and the Atlanta Area Electric Flyers (Joel Shreenan, John Cochran, Glenn Delconte, Jason Holloway, Jason Taylor, Bill Killillay, Mike Parsons, and Phil Roey).
You can see some pictures and pilots accounts of the event at www.ezonemag.com and go to the discussion area under events. There are currently several threads that are concerning SEFF. Once again, a great big thanks to all that helped and supported SEFF 2004 incase I missed anyone. The Fayette Flyers owe a lot to those listed above, because it’s their hard work that is going to provide the means to fix up a new field when we get it.
We need more club involvement in SEFF 2005 since we had more non-members work this event than did our own club members.
The atmosphere was like a festival with hundreds of pilots and spectators having a good time shopping at the many vendors, talking with Electric flying friends from across the USA, Canada, Europe and even Japan. The Raffle was huge and kept a lot of pilots there until the last ticket was pulled. We had one food concessionaire and we will have to get more for next year due to the large increase in people over last year.
Overall the event was great and we now have huge expectations that we have to live up to next year.
