1999 KING PEACH ELECTRIC CONTEST
The 1999 King Peach Electric contest was a great
success. There were 12 contestants who forked over $20 each to participate oin this two
day event. If you have read this far then you are one of those who attended and don't need
to know how it turned out.
So,....for you, I want to say thanks very much for making my day. My wife worked very hard
to help make you enjoy this contest. She shopped for and got the corn, potatos, onion and
shrimp for the cook-out. She also remembered the cole slaw, the nice silverware, the
napkins, the ketchup, lemon, shrimp boil, salt & pepper, the big pot, hot pads/gloves,
clean water, cutting board, knife & rolls. She cleaned the potatos, peeled and cleaned
the corn, helped cook and serve all who attended but didn't eat because whe wanted to make
sure everyone had enough. We were almost an hour late eating because she was late getting
there due to her efforts to get the best prices on everything for the club. She also was
concerned that people would not like to have to deal with the silk on the fresh corn she
selected so she took the time to carefully make sure the corn was perfect. She also
cleaned rooms and played host to out of town company to make him feel at home and speak
well of the folks who host the King Peach!
Chuck Robinson did his Daddy duties with his sons who got nice trophies for their success
at a fishing contest. Then he proceeded to kick our butts in Class A & B sailplane as
the lift and light were fading! He also did the gofer duties for the dinner beverages!
Earl Robinson, who should have been concentrating on his flying, spent half the afternoon
helping his competition fix their motor and get airborne again. He also brought an
airplane for another competitor who had last minute mechanical problems (me) who he knew
(but wouldn't admit) could beat his butt. Doesn't matter with Earl. He is a
"Class" act! (If you never compete, you will never know the warm fuzzies of true
friendship!) Earl, Chuck's biggest fan, made sure his son would have every chance to fly
and have all "systems 'GO'" even if it could cost Earl a trophy!
Ernie supplied the neatest landing tapes in the world. Better yet, he brought his wife,
Clare, who graciously played girl "Friday" in catering lunch, filming the whole
event, playing 'gofer', putting up with stupid teasing (male stress relief), timing,
getting ice and sodas and basically being everything that the CD needed to get kudos for a
good event. (Can't forget to thank Ernie for the donuts! B-Robbins,...2 dozen!)
Tommy Vinci dodged lightning bolts on Thursday to get the field ship shape. He
participated in the flying both days and provided the cooker for the shrimp boil Sat.
nite.
Bill Divins soaked up sun for two days providing everything at his disposal for all there
to have a good time. His array of Old Timers were made available to anyone who wanted or
needed to fly. He offered 'give-aways' for added prizes as well! The club is blessed to
have someone of Bill's caliber as both a hobby shop owner as well as a fellow flier!
Then there was Randy. He hosted a couple from out of town. He writes the Fly Paper. He
does anything and everything to make the event work as well as providing his own airplanes
and equipment for anyone who wants to fly!!
On behalf of the club,...a sincere,..."Thankyou"..on behalf on myself and all
who attedended
To each of you, though, I have a challenge! Next time some new folk come up to you for
help, say, "Okay, but only if you will help me!" At our next club event, come
help us! For Toys for Tots we need," ......venders, advitizers, etc!" Become
