Meeting Minutes: October 28th, 1999 by Ernie Schlumberger

President Tommy Vinci brought the meeting to order at 7:30p.m. There were 18 members and 3 membership applicants in attendance at the old Fayette High School. Tommy began with a special report that a fellow member had passed away. Jerry McCall passed away on October 18th, 1999. Jerry’s friendship and help at all the fun flys will be sorely missed. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Jerry’s family.

Officer Reports:

Treasurer Roy Collins went over the finances for the month. We had total expenses of $621.74 (which includes fun flys, contests, Bulldog Johnny and field maint.), no income from dues, which left $983.08 in checking. The total of all accounts is now at $6,363.70.

Youth Coordinator Dave Zeigler told about a letter he had received from the AMA headquarters offering him a job with the AMA to put together a program to teach kids the fundamentals of how an aircraft flies. Dave went out to the AMA headquarters where they rolled out the red carpet for him and gave him the grand tour of the facilities. He graciously declined their offer of a job but has agreed to help them with the kids program by building some teaching aids and putting together a written program for the teachers to follow.

Tommy Vinci awarded Jaye Tomlinson with a Nite Fly patch for successfully completing a flight during last months Nite Fly after the meeting.

Tommy then gave an update on the club’s progress in the L.E.S. (League for Electric Soaring) program. Currently half of all members of the L.E.S. are in our club. Earl Robinson #007, Chuck Robinson #008, Randy Hawkins #009, Ernie Schlumberger #010, Hank Frese #011, Tommy Vinci #013, Clare Schlumberger #015 (first lady of L.E.S.)[and official cloud chaser], and now Bill Divens #016. #017 was just issued to someone in England. Now L.E.S. is international.

VP Randy Hawkins went over the upcoming Toys for Tots Fun Fly on Saturday, November 20th. Mike McGowan is the contest director and the event is sanctioned with the AMA. There will be a $10 donation (or new toy) required as a landing Fee. The club will need volunteers to help with parking lot detail, radio impound, and refreshment stand duties. We plan to have door prizes to raffle off, paintball event, maybe a candy drop and some combat flying too. Also, we would like to ask all members to check around their model shops and see if there are any kits or accessories (New in Box) laying around not being used that you would like to donate to the cause. Contact one of the officers if you would like to volunteer to help with setup or donate anything. Randy then showed off this month’s Model Aviation magazine with Earl Robinson’s picture in it from the NATS competition. He was holding Chuck’s sailplane at the time.

New Business:

Next up were the yearly nominations for club officers. Roy Collins announced that he was not running for treasurer again. Dave Zeigler was nominated and seconded and agreed to run for treasurer. No other nominations were made for the positions of treasurer, secretary, vice president or president. The current officers were re-nominated and seconded and agreed to perform their current positions for another year.

Stan McCullough asked for the website frequency use chart to be updated. It was agreed to update it as soon as possible when the club renewal is completed. Also, the club officers are looking into re-keying the front gate lock and sending out new keys again at the end of December. After some open discussion about the cost of the keys, it seemed there was no objection to re-keying.

New Members:

This month we welcomed three new members: Jake Veilleux, Fred Smith and Mike Worth. Please welcome these new members and help them out if you see them at the field.

Broken Prop Award: None though several incidents were mentioned, none made it to claim this Months Title. Though Ernest and Julian made it to the top of the list, Ernest has his big yellow Extra flying again and Julian will see the British Hawker in the air again one way or the other. [Hey, Ernest and Julian, hmmmm maybe and idea about Vineyard flying?]

With this years club membership renewal, a new sticker for your AMA card and gate key will be sent out by mail in the last half of December. The Gate locks (Both inner combo and the OUTER keyed lock) will be changed sometime during the first week of the New Year if everything still works.

THE Hobby Stop is loaded with things for Christmas.
